A governance advisory practice built on institutional experience, independent judgment, and a clear-eyed understanding of how leadership decisions actually get made.
Our Work
The Rall Group was founded on a straightforward premise: that governance is too important to be treated as an afterthought.
Many organizations invest heavily in programs, fundraising, and communications — and relatively little in the structures that determine how decisions get made at the top. When governance is weak, even well-resourced institutions struggle to act decisively, maintain accountability, or navigate leadership change without disruption.
We work with boards and trustees to address that gap — not through generic frameworks or off-the-shelf assessments, but through careful, institution-specific analysis and counsel grounded in how governance actually works in practice.
Our work is informed by direct experience with how boards actually function — not idealized models. We understand the dynamics of institutional leadership because we have worked inside them.
We offer candid assessments, not comfortable ones. Our value to clients depends on our ability to identify problems clearly and recommend solutions without deference to internal politics.
We measure success not by the completion of an engagement, but by the durability of the governance improvements we help put in place. Our goal is institutions that function well long after we have left.
Experience
Our practice draws on experience advising nonprofit boards, professional associations, foundations, and educational institutions. We have worked with organizations at moments of stability and at moments of significant stress — leadership transitions, governance failures, strategic inflection points, and periods of rapid growth.
That breadth of context shapes how we approach every engagement. We bring pattern recognition from across the sector alongside the discipline to treat each institution as distinct, with its own history, culture, and constraints.
We work with a select number of organizations at any given time, which allows us to give each engagement the attention it requires.
If your board is facing a governance challenge — or simply wants to ensure its structures are as strong as they should be — we'd welcome the conversation.
